I think we have come to the conclusion that it is a tracker (Newt Tracker)
there's a little tiny bag with one small piece in it. I cant tell what it is or where it goes on the figure. any help? thanks

hell I thought maybe it was an extention for the gun or something. at first I thought it was a cigar and then looked closer and couldnt figure out what the hell it is.

Have no clue.
I haven't opened the Retail one I have (although I did see it in the package with that one as well).
I'd think it would clip onto the gun (if it was Ripley as she did that in the movie to go find Newt at the end), but not sure.
Does he have a pack on his belt it would slide into?
Are you guys talking about the little bag at the top left corner?
If it is then it's the tracker.
It's the tracker I didn't get with the retail version.
its a piece about the size of a broken pencil lead tip in a tiny little bag. I cannot figure out where the hell it goes and why they evened bothered with it
